UNEXPECTED CONNECTIONS

Relection Works headlines the "Bundle of Joy" campaign for mothers.

By Kristen Tammaro

The fact is that my mom spends more time with strangers than family due to her heavy involvement with her commitment to the community and giving to those who are with out. She cares about issues that most people overlook and I am slowly (slower than I would like) understanding what it means to help others. I probably would have never hooked up with A Women's Concern if it wasn't for the fact that my car had broken down (again) and I needed to be toted around like a 14 year old for three weeks. One such evening included an event dinner at the Marriott Hotel north of Boston. The point is there is ALWAYS something good in everything bad and that night I found a cause that is out there to help women and couples with unexpected pregnancies.

We sat through speeches and pictures of babies and their families while enjoying the dinner and reading material. At the end of the night donation cards we passed out to each of the 40+ white linen tables.. I stuffed my donation and business card into the envelope along with my comment expressing my gratitude for such a great organization and that I would like to further help with donate some of Relaxation Works products to the Moms and Dads that seek these great services.

No less than two weeks later I received an email stating that they wanted to start up a service they provided for the moms two years ago. "We wanted to do something for the moms. They need to know they are important too." stated Gina Cavalluzzo, a volunteer at the Cape Cod location. Gina was in charge of putting together the gift bags for the Bundle of Joy Campaign back in 2004.

Now Relaxation Works is taking over the reigns for the 2006 campaign, donating body butters and scrubs. Each mom gets a gift bag filled with goodies after they have completed a Mommy & ME class which the center also provides as a free service. In addition to the products I have offered my massage therapy services. I thought chair massage might be nice for the mothers who visit the center in time of crisis. Sometimes people just need that comforting touch. It's amazing to see how just 15 minutes of chair massage can change someone's mood and emotional state. The power of touch is so beyond anything I've ever seen, but one thing is for sure, it works!!
